Oh My Gaudi!

Sooo since I really didn't want to listen to my mother for the next 30 years drone on about how her atheist daughter didn't get married in the Catholic Church she got married in and how the church won't recognize my marriage, blah, blah, blah...I went to look at a freaking church. It is technically isn't a church anymore but it used to be. So my dear friend Lisa and I went to check out this church. The first thing I notice is that we are in the ghetto. Next thing, there are several shutters missing from the outside of this church. THEN we actually get inside...Oh. My. Gaudi. It is actually a pretty strange gaudi church. There was a large bar that split the pews in half..strike one. Then out of the ten statues, four were Marys...strike two. Then there was little Joseph. He was significantly smaller than the his fellow statues. He reminded me of the priest at True Cross...strike three. After I showed this to mommy dearest, she decided that a good minister could make the ceremony memorable despite the location. I still don't think I've heard the last of the great church debate...but we shall see.

On Sunday at about 11:30 I remembered I was supposed to meet with the ceremony music people at noon in Houston! So I jumped out of bed (yes, I was still in bed at 11:30!) and threw on clothes and some makeup. I would have been on time BUT there was some location confusion. Anywho, I got there and the girls were super sweet. They were starting their business while in college and it brought me back to my younger days (like 2 years ago). Great pricing...felt a little bad because I knew they weren't charging enough but it's what you gotta do when you are just starting out. So I'm thinking we will book them :)

Last night, Brian and I met with a dj. I've heard good things about them and they had a good website. He seemed a little...off..for lack of a better word. His price was double what we budgeted for but it seemed worth it if our guests were gonna have a good time. We told him where the wedding would be and said how much he like the pool at the San Luis and how he's had some good Spring Break times there, hmmm....Not too much longer after that he says since the wedding ends late, he will be needing a hotel room and casually mentions how he could hit the beach the next day. Umm...what? But I'm thinking fine, its October, off-season in Galveston, we can just get him a cheapy hotel room somewhere nearby. I emailed him later that night just to be sure that would work...nope. He wants to stay at the San Luis (which is $200 a night!). And hang out by the pool and hit the beach! Basically it seemed like he wanted us to pay for his mini vacation! The dj price wasn't too bad but a little over budget, $200 extra for his fun time?! No. So I emailed someone else and got a better price. Hopefully he's not nuts or anything!

Papa, Papa, Paparazzi

Me and mom went and met with a another photographer, Blanca Duran. Her and her husband were super great and friendly! After talking numbers and looking through their books, we decided to book them! So yay! Next on the to do list is to find a baker and dj. I really want an awesome dj, but it may not fit into the budget...whats a girl to do?!

My boss went to NY Market this past weekend to buy new gowns for the store. She said she saw a dress and immediately thought of me! It is by my favorite designer and has aspects of all the other dresses I liked. I saw a picture but she said its even prettier in person. I am trying not to love it until I know how much it is!

Decisions, Decisions, Decisions!

Ok so last week at work Emily (my boss) told me I could get an awesome discount at a dress at Mia OR Brickhouse!! So me and mom celebrated Wedding Fun Day and went to both places last Wednesday to try on dresses. We didn't find "the one" but we made some progress. My mother actually thought I looked good in all of these dresses...mostly, and she did offer to sign me up for weight watchers later that night but, eh, baby steps. I was surprised that I liked the plainest dress as one of my favorites. BUT it could be because it reminded me of a dress that Marilyn Monroe wore in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes! My favorite...if I had an unlimited budget, would be this beautiful, super sparkly dress. Unfortunately, even with my awesome discount, it doesn't fit into the budget. :( In between trying on dresses, we met with a photographer. She was cool, pictures were great she just seemed a little...lost? So the search for an amazing photographer (for an even better price) continues! I also found an awesome makeup artist that would only cost the girls $120 each. The portfolio was great..except they didnt appear to have any eye makeup on. Im thinking I will get a trial before booking. Last Friday, I went to a ghetto bridal shop (alone!) to try on this one specific dress. Unfortunately this specific dress was a size 4 and I couldn't get it back over my shoulders!! No one was helping me and there were a lot of people outside the dressing room so I got in every imaginable position to get that dress off!! I then went into panic mode, started sweating and the satin fabric started sticking to my skin. So finally (after I RIPPED the dress and still couldnt get it off!!) I called the sales girl in the room to get it off. She got it off me, no problem but I was so humiliated I bolted out of that store! I called MOH Stacy right after and told her my oh-so-embarrassing story!

Due to the humiliating dress incidence, I started weight watchers yesterday. Not only for the wedding but for Mexico in June as well! I only have .5 points left for tonight but I am gonna hit the gym to try to get enough points to eat a WW ice cream!
